Crazy

Man I forgot I even had this page! Funny stuff, was anyone ever reading this babble to begin with? I just read my posts from this time last year...kinda neat, man things change in a year. Why do years seem to pass more quickly as we get older? Last September seems like yesterday. Good song title! LOL

George Carlin Modern Man

This is my all time favorite George Carlin bit. I remember when this aired on Leno, awesome stuff. I was looking for this a while ago and it was never posted. I think this was just added last week. Cool man, everything eventually finds its way to YouTube at some point. hehe

I PASSED....I PASSED!!!

I am now officially a CISSP!! The congratulatory email came late Monday afternoon. It was an awesome feeling. To work so hard on something and achieve your goal is always an amazing feeling. I faxed in my endorsement and CV and it's been confirmed. The package is in the mail.

Certified Information Systems Security Professional sounds good to me. So now I have ITIL, MCSE, Solaris, CISSP certifications. Not too shabby. Writing these exams are hard and time consuming, but you kind of get addicted to them. Not really the test but the feeling you get when you pass. It sounds kinda geeky but you actually get a rush of adrenalin, ask anyone who has writen one of these tests and they will say the same thing.

I started to study for the CISSP in mid January. That's not a long time when you read some of the forums, people study for over a year and fail the exam. I chalk my win up to the fact that I have been envolved in Security systems for the past 9 years. I was a leading expert from 1999 to 2001 in viruses. I knew everything about them and was a huge resource to the company. I should have followed the security path at that time but some how I left the track. I'm not sure really what caused that as I have always enjoyed and loved the security field. I'm excited to have the oportunity to dedicate my career to security full time now. Security is growing, getting more attention, and is the field to be in for the next 10 years. Some cool things are about to happen in this field and I'm thrilled to be in the middle of it.

Enough geek talk....I passed...I'm happy and I'm looking forward to a great year!

HAPPY SAINT PADDY'S DAY

A drink of Guinness and a warm pot of stew! That's what I have in store today. Screw the over crowed bars with the green beer drinking wannabees. Today every asshole and their dog become a friggin Irishmen. Bah, I'd rather stay home with my Guinness and stew. I can safely say Irishmen do not drink green beer, they drink beer, whiskey, vodka, scotch, wine, fermented fruit juice, SCOPE, pretty much anything with an alcohol content. So for you and your dog, enjoy the only day you'll be Irish this year and I'll enjoy the rest of it.

Happy Saint Paddy's Day

Well I'm HOME! That was the Hardest!, Longest!, Mind Draining! Experience of my life! I have absolutely no idea how I did. After 250 questions and almost 6hrs later I didn't know if I was coming or going. I was just glad to have all my little circles filled in.

It was a great week and I sure learned a tonne of stuff. John Berti is an amazing instructor. If you ever think of getting this CERT. I strongly suggest John's training. We'll find out just how good in a week or so! LOL. I sure hope it's a pass, I dread the though of having to sit this grueling exam again!

CISSP EXAM in Toronto

Well this is it...the course is over and it's all or nothing tomorrow. I've been formally preparing for this exam since January, but over the course of this week my 9 years in IT have prepared me well.

Today we finished the course with a practice test, and I scored pretty well. So my confidence is up and I'm physically and mentally geared up for this puppy tomorrow.

Wish me LUCK!!

This week has been great. TORONTO is an awesome city. I would not want to work here if I had to commute in everyday, but the downtown life is pretty sweet. I could get used to this, but it all ends tomorrow evening.

I have missed my family this week a lot. The noise of 3 kids in the evening is really a great thing. Maybe not when you in the middle of it, but stepping back and not having it makes you realize just how great they are. I can't wait to PASS this exam and come home. I guess I owe my wife big time for sacrificing her to the 3 lions for the week. I'm sure she had fun LOL.....LOVE you Babe I'll see you soon. Thanks for being so GREAT! XOXO

Toronto

So I'm here in Toronto...ice falling everywhere. After class today King Street West was closed because of falling ice off the buildings. What 5lb chunks of ice falling from 1000 feet is dangerous? Jesus, I guess they didn't think that ice would attach to these suckers when they built them (said in a red neck twang). So I couldn't get a cab and decided to walk. I'm at the delta just past Dundas...so its about a 15 - 20 min walk tops. It was ok, I actually love Toronto, city life in general is awesome.

So I study when I get back to my hotel. Then I decide to go out to grab a bite around 7:30pm. I walk to York Street and see Sam the record man so I go in. I looked around didn't see any Jupiter ray or loud love so I left. The goal here is to grab food, so I walk down to the Eaton Center...nothing appealing. I cross the street and head back the in the direction I just came. I found some nice little restaurants along Elm street but the whole Freddy thing creeped me out and I left. Actually the restaurants were a little to quaint for me to go in alone. SOOOO I head back to the hotel to eat. I got to the bistro and the girl tells me there are no tables and to come back in 5min. I can seee empty tables so I give her a look and say no tables. I tell her I'll be back after I return my coat to my room. When I return she acts like she's never seen me before and tells me there are no tables and I have to wait 5mins. I still see tables and question her. She tells me yes but those tables are very dirty. So I sit in the chair. She walks down to the tables I see and cleans them, comes back and says my table is ready. Freaky...she was strange. Not sure what point I was trying to make there. Maybe I'm the one that's strange.....HMMMMMM.

So an old man sits down at the table next to me. He strikes up a conversation (where ever I am I always seem to attract old people) So it turns out he's in town for the convention. He's a 78 year old geologist from Vancouver. We had a great talk, old guys rock, they have the coolest stories and did a lot of amazing things that make us guys today look like panseys. Props and respect to the old school brothers!!

I think I was born in the wrong times. I would love to have everything slow down, write on paper, chop a tree down, make something with a hammer and a saw, smoke a pipe, burn leaded fuel, sleep with the windows open, drink moon shine, bearl cream the locks, fight with your fists, dance with a lady, buy bread for a nickle. Where are we going, what's this all for? Spend time with your family what elese are we for?
